Death of Z. T. Smith.

Mr. Z. T. Smith died at his home near Atwater last Saturday from a hemorrhage of the kidneys. He had been ill about two weeks. Mr. Smith was a native of Ohio and 67 years of age.  He was one of the pioneer settlers of the Atwater colony having settled there in 1889 and was a man of sterling worth, commanding the respect and confidence of his neighbors and in fact all those who knew him. He came here from Nevada county and for several years after he came to this county he followed school teaching with very satisfactory success. He leaves a wife, three sons and a daughter.  The funeral took place Sunday afternoon last under the auspices of Merced Lodge, No. 208, I. O. O. F. and the interment was in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
