Mr. Samuel Stover Stone, an early settler of Merced county, died at his home twelve miles south of Merced, on Saturday last, at the age of 63 years. The deceased was a native of Ohio, and in the early history of the county resided near Dover, on the San Joaquin river, where he was engaged in stock raising. During his long residence in this county he had the reputation of being a man who was the very soul of honor and integrity, for his word was as good as his bond, and Monday morning when the funeral notice announced his death to the public every one who knew him remarked "a good man has gone." About eighteen years ago Mr. Stone was married to a daughter of Captain , a well known pioneer citizen of this county. Mr. and Mrs. Stone had no children, and the wife survives her husband. The funeral took place Monday last.
