Mrs. Gertrude Sperry Passes

Away at Sacramento

Mrs. Gertrude Sperry (nee Fancher) passed away at the White hospital in Sacramento at 11:30 o’clock on Friday night of last week. She had been ill but a short time, and the news of her passing came as a severe shock to her host of friends and acquaintances in Merced.

Mrs. Sperry was a native of Indiana and was aged 21 years and 6 months. She came to Merced county with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Fancher, when two years old and spent her girlhood days on the L. R. Fancher ranch near Athlone. She attended the Merced High School for several terms, and was married in Berkeley in September 1912, to Austin W. Sperry of Stockton. Since her marriage she had made her home in Sacramento and in Folsom, where Mr. Sperry is employed as a civil engineer by the Natomas Land Company. She was a young woman of many beautiful traits of character, and she was beloved and respected by a multitude of friends and acquaintances. Her untimely death is deeply felt by all, and the sincere sympathy of the whole community is extended to her heart-broken relatives. Surviving her are her husband and a little daughter. Catherine, aged three and one-half years; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Fancher, and a brother Fred B. Fancher; also several other relatives who are residents of Merced county.

Funeral services were held at the residence of Dr. F. P. Burton in Stockton Monday afternoon, and interment was made in the Sperry family cemetery plot.
