Mrs. W. A. Rucker
Mrs. Sarah Kathrine Rucker, wife of W. A. Rucker, died yesterday morning at 1:15 o'clock, after an extended illness covering several weeks.
Mrs. Rucker was born in Shelbina, Mo., and was 58 years of age at the time of her death. Shortly after her marriage, which occurred when she was 16 years old, she and her husband came to California, settling in Merced, and were among the first settlers in this part of the state. For many years Mrs. Rucker was a conscientious and consistent member of the Methodist church south, holding her membership in Bethel church in this city.
Seven children, four daughters and three sons, survive. They are Mrs. W. C. Grimes, Mrs. E. J. Ergo, Mrs. L. B. Wheldon, Miss Ella Rucker, Elmer Rucker, Thomas A. Rucker and George W. Rucker. All were present at the funeral, which occurred this morning. Mrs. Ergo, Miss Ella Rucker and Thomas A. Rucker are residents of this city, Mrs. Grimes lives in Modesto, Mrs. Weldon in Oakland, Elmer Rucker in Lemoore and George W. Rucker in San Francisco.
The funeral was held from Bethel M. E. church this morning at 10 o'clock, the services being conducted by the pastor, Rev. Harry S. Allen. A number of other relatives and close friends of the family were present from various parts of the state, among them being Mrs. Bessie Etiener of San Francisco and Mrs. Emma Rucker and Mrs. Robin Jarvis of Oakland.
