Death of P. J. Reilly

Patrick J. Reilly, a well known and successful farmer of this county, who resided seven miles east of Merced, died at St. Mary's hospital, San Francisco, Sunday night last from stomach trouble. He was under treatment in Merced for several weeks, but ten or twelve days ago his brother Dan took him to St. Mary's hospital with the hope that good care, treatment and change of climate would bring him out all right, but he gradually grew worse, and Sunday night at 8 o'clock he died.

Patrick J. Reilly was a native of Ireland and 54 years of age. He came to this State from his native land in 1867, and in 1872 in company with his brothers he removed from Napa county to Merced county and settled on the ranch which is now his late home. By hard work and strict attention to business he accumulated quite a little estate. In addition to the ten hundred acres of land which he owned himself he leased other lands and farmed extensively. Patrick Reilly, was a good citizen, a generous man and true friend. He leaves two brothers, Dan and Frank Reilly to mourn his death.
