Death of a Pioneer
Mrs. Caliphurnia Neel passed peacefully away last Wednesday evening at 10 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Thomas, from bulbar paralysis.
The deceased was born in Neosho, Mo., June 19, 1839 and crossed the plains in 1852 when she was about 13 years old and has made California home since that time. She was married to Barnet Neel in 1858 from which union one son and three daughters were born, who survive her, Granville Neel, now living at Dunsmuer, Miss Mattie Neel, of Sacramento, Mrs. Nora Voss, of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Caliphurnia Thomas of this place. She also has a sister and two brothers who live at Watsonville.
The deceased was a woman of admirable attributes, and her death is a great blow to her many friends of this place.
The funeral took place at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Thomas yesterday morning at half past eight and the remains were shipped to Oakland where arrangements were previously made for cremation.
