Pioneer Woman Passes to the Great Beyond

Death came as a relief to Mrs. John Menjoulet, Sr., who passed away early Tuesday
morning from diabetes, after an illness covering several months. She was a pioneer resident of this section having lived on California 44 years and of that time only four years of her life were lived outside of Merced county. She was a native of France, and aged 65 years, one month and 28 days. Death overtook her at the home on Badger Flat.

She was the mother of John P., Henry L., Geo. B., and Miss Julia Menjoulet, Mrs. S. B. McCullagh, Mrs. Wm. Pfitzer, and Mrs. Mathilde Bambauer, all of the West Side. The husband, John Menjoulet, Sr., for many years was one of the best known stockraisers in this part of California, and during this period the family home was located in the hills west of Los Banos.

The funeral was held Thursday morning, conducted by G. E. Nordgren of Merced, and was one of the largest attended that has ever taken place from this city. Floral remembrances of the esteem in which this estimable lady was held were much in evidence. The services were held at the Catholic church conducted by the pastor, Rev. Father Labellegay. The pallbearers were J. M. Arburua, Jack Bareilles, Joseph Pfitzer, Frank Pfitzer, Wm. Bunker and Joseph Columa.

Those in attendance at the funeral from Berkeley were John Pfitzer, Clariece Pfitzer, Mrs. A. Gomengine, Mrs. Julia McCabe and Miss Lizzie McCabe; from San Francisco Jack Bareilles, J. Ayester, Mr. and Mrs. F. Menjoulet, Bernard Lagrave a nephew and Mrs. Emile Nouaux a niece of the deceased; and from Hawyards [sic] Victor Lagrave a nephew
