Passing of a Pioneer Lady
The death of Mrs. Abbie M. Mallory, a highly esteemed pioneer lady, occurred at the home of her son-in-law Paul Neumann, near Le Grand on Friday evening of last week. The deceased was the widow of John F. Mallory, who died about sixteen years ago.
She was a native of Princeton, Mass, and was aged 85 years and 18 days. she came to California with her husband in 1854, making the trip by way of Cape Horn.
After a residence of ten years in Calaveras county they moved to Plainsburg, where Mr. Mallory engaged in the blacksmithing business and where she resided up to the time of her death. Her death was caused by infirmities incident to the increasing years, She was kind hearted woman, ever ready to render assistance in sickness and distress, and many friends throughout the county will sincerely regret her death.
She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Paul Neumann and Mrs. J. D. Price. The funeral took place from the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Plainsburg on Sunday afternoon, and was conducted by Rev. W. D. Hawkins, who paid tribute to the memory of the deceased. The funeral was one of the largest ever held in Plainsburg.
