ANOTHER MERCED PIONEER IS SUMMONED
Michael Maher, a well-known and highly respected pioneer resident of Merced,
passed away at an early hour Thursday morning at Providence Hospital in
Oakland, where he had been under treatment for several weeks.
The remains were brought to this city last evening, and the funeral will be
held from the Catholic Church this morning at 9:30 o'clock.
Mr. Maher was a native of Ireland and was aged 68 years. He came to Merced
county in 1873 and was engaged in farming near this city until a few years ago
when he disposed of his family farming interests and moved to this city to
reside. He was a man of sterling character and reserved and retiring
disposition, fair and honest in his dealings with his fellow men and was
respected and esteemed by a host of friends and acquaintances.
To mourn his passing he leaves a widow, Mary Maher; two daughters, Mrs. J.D.
McCarthy and Mrs. Walter Thiercof of Los Banos; and five sons, John Maher of
Richmond, James Maher of San Francisco, William Maher of Willits and Thomas
and Vincent Maher of Merced. He also leaves a brother and three sisters
residing in Ireland.
