Death Has Called An Aged Citizen

George Kaehler, aged 88 years, 6 months and 8 days, died yesterday afternoon at the Merced sanatorium, after an illness lasting about one week. Mr. Kaehler had been feeble for several years, yet not withstanding his advanced age, was able to be about the streets almost every day and greeted his friends in a cheery manner.

He was born in Kiel, Germany, September 12, 1823. About 55 years ago he was married in his native land, six children being born to the union, three of whom have preceded him to the grave. Mrs. Kaehler died about seven years ago. Mr. Kaehler came to Merced 24 years ago and has made this city his home ever since, leading a quiet and retired life. During his young days he was a master machinist and for a number of years was master mechanic in a large manufacturing plant in Germany.

Three sons, George Kaehler of Fresno, Reinhold Kaehler of Merced and Max Kaehler of Los Banos survive him. Funeral services will be held at the mortuary chapel of G. E. Nordgren tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Greenwood. Interment will be in the Druids cemetery. Friends of the family are invited to attend.
