Former mayor.

Gustine ~ Dan Galatro, a retired petroleum engineer, died June 28. He was 84.
Mr. Galatro, a Los Banos native, lived in Gustine for 61 years. He was a member of the Highway 33 Association, Angels on Wheels, Gustine Community Presbyterian Church, Gustine Historical Society, 20/30 Club, Odd Fellows, Native sons and the Commerce.

He served two terms on the City Council and one term as mayor. He also served on the Gustine school board, Westside Hospital Board of Directors and was a volunteer firefighter.
Active in sports, he earned 15 varsity letters while in high school. He was a member of the Gustine Recreation Committee and the California Parks and Recreation Society.
He was a delegate to the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He was an avid duck hunter, a member of Ducks Unlimited and developed many of the area duck clubs.
A charter member of the Gustine Rotary Club, he served for 50 years and received the Paul Harris Fellowship.
In 1987, he served as Grand Marshall of the Fourth of July parade and this year received the Lowell Peters Award.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris Galatro; two sons, David Galatro of Ripon and Charles Galatro of Merced; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at Gustine Community Presbyterian Church.
