Passing of a Pioneer Woman
Mrs. Catherine Feldhaus, for many years a resident of the Snelling section of Merced county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. M. Welch, in Oakland on Wednesday night of this week. This highly esteemed old lady was a native of Germany, aged 82 years, and was the widow of the late John Feldhaus, who died in 1890. She came to California in 1859. After residing at Mariposa for a short time, she came with her husband to this county, settling near Snelling, where she resided until about six years ago, when she moved to Kings county. Subsequently she went to Oakland, where she made her home with her daughter until the time of her death.
She leaves two sons and a daughter, Frank Feldhaus of Lemoore, Edward Feldhaus of Fresno and Mrs. C. M. Welch of Oakland. The funeral will be held at Mariposa today.
